MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that his office reviewed around 75,000 emails in connection to the Astros sign stealing investigation. Also, they interviewed three current managers in the league, several players, and MLB personnel.
According to a pay per head source, the punishment will be harsh and will affect many members of the Astros organization. The office of the commissioner is currently deciding the severity of the discipline. Also, they will announce the results of the investigation within the next two weeks.
The commissioner will mete out punishments to the front office and on-field coaching staff. However, players will not be part of the list of people to be punished for stealing signs. Those who are more likely to face punishments are GM Jeff Luhnow, manager AJ Hinch, and other members of the management team. Also, the MLB might give out a record fine.
Astros Sign Stealing Investigation
In September 2017, commissioner Manfred warned teams not to steal signs of their opponents. The warning came after the MLB found out that the Red Sox used technology to give it an advantage.
However, it looks like the Astros didn’t listen to the warning. In a non-bearing game against the White Sox, the team used video cams to steal signs. According to sportsbook pay per head reports, the commissioner wants to know whether the Astros used the system during the World Series against the Nationals.
Sports betting software providers are expecting the commissioner to announce the punishments soon. Also, they found out that the Astros cooperated with the investigation. It is a wise choice because covering up is always worse than the actual crime.
The Astros organization at present looks different today compared to the time when they won the World Series. Assistant GM Brandon Taubman was fired after his misogynistic remarks toward members of the press. Also, there are rumors that GM Luhnow might be out of work after the announcement of the investigation’s results.
