The National Football League handed out its biggest fine this year. However, there were no flags on the play. The NFL fined Atlanta Falcons Keith Smith $87,418 for unnecessary roughness against Detroit.
Even though no flag was shown, the league has decided to fine Smith for his behavior on the field.
According to football news reports, the Falcons were kicking off to start the game against the Lions when the collision occurred.
NFL Hands Out Biggest Fine
Smith knocked Lions running back Zonovan Knight to the ground by leading with his helmet. It is one of the most egregious examples of the persistent gap between in-game penalties and subsequent fines.

After a third-quarter tackle on Lions’ receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, linebacker Kaden Elliss was penalized $16,391 for unnecessary roughness.
