The only prominent South Carolina Native American tribe will cut ties with a company that operates its casino. It came after federal gambling regulators threatened the Catawba Nation with temporary closure and fines for its casino in North Carolina.
Hundreds of Catawba Nation citizens gathered on the reservation east of Rock Hill this past weekend to discuss a report by the National Indian Gaming Commission. The commission questioned the tribe’s decision to give the Greenville company Sky Boat a significant role in the creation and growth of the Two Kings Casino. There have been rumors that the tribe accomplished this without the necessary governmental requirements.
Tribal members have criticized Sky Boat for their responsibilities in developing, running, and leasing the parking lot of the casino and slot machines. The members of the tribe will vote on whether or not to continue the relationships with the companies.
South Carolina Native American Tribe Cuts Ties with Partner
Sky Boat has had a relationship with the Catawbas since 2008. Also, several tribal members told sportsbook software sources that they believe Sky Boat was responsible for shutting down the Catawba’s high-stakes bingo facility in Rock Hill.
If the Catawbas were to sever connections with Sky Boat, they would be forced to rent gambling machines, find a new manager, and construct a parking garage for their Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
While this may be good for business, it may also appease federal regulators who discovered in their investigation that the Catawbas started its casino operations before obtaining approvals for several contracts with Sky Boat. Also, the Catawbas gave Sky Boat too much control over expanding the current temporary casino building.
If the tribe wants to open a bookie business in the future, they should consider getting a more trustworthy partner than Sky Boat. That way, they would not run into trouble with federal authorities. Thus, that’s the best way how to be a bookie.
